Although Tanzania has enjoyed political stability and national unity since independence, it has posted mixed results on its governance report card. Although the country has an array of anti-corruption measures, cases of corruption remain rampant. The 2009 National Governance and Corruption Survey report highlights greed, moral indecency by public officials, poor law enforcement, and lack of control and accountability of public officials among the leading causes of corruption.

As of December 2013, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) reported 27.6 million mobile subscriptions and 607,822 fixed lines. Internet penetration stands at 9.3 million.
